Suffolk Open Studios Showcase Exhibition Awards

Alison Calvesbert was the winner of the Suffolk Open Studios’(SOS) Best Overall Prize presented on Friday 14 May 2010 at the SOS Showcase Exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, Suffolk.

The three judges, Rachel Stone (freelancer with BBC Radio Suffolk), Richard Bryson (Editor, Suffolk Magazine) and Chrissie Harrington (Dean of Art, University Campus Suffolk) were impressed by the “painterly” way Alison had compiled images, her complicated collage design of mixed media which she lifted with touches of gold and the very strong photographic content. Alison’s prize was sponsored by Denny Brothers and was a £100 voucher to spend at their Ottewill Art retail outlet in Bury St Edmunds. It was presented by Ottewill Art’s Manager Daryn Reffell.

Joe Pattison won the Best Newcomer 2010 for his exquisitely produced pargeted panels. The judges loved the mural-type feel of Joe’s work, which they felt was “absolutely brilliant” and so very different from everything else at the exhibition. Joe’s prize was a £100 cheque sponsored and presented by Liza Jones, managing director of local PR and marketing firm Abucon.

Runner up for the Best Overall artist prize was Ken Minns for his pigs, which the judges thought were “great fun”, and the runner up prize for the Best Newcomer was awarded to Jeremy Young. Runners up each received a £20 voucher to be spent at sponsors Art Discount.
